Our America was incredible. It drew me in, to hear the words of those boys is to hear truth spoken.
I wanted more after watching the movie last night, so I took to the web.
If you want to hear the original audio from the show:http://www.soundportraits.org/on-air/ghetto_life_101/
Here is a great overview, with links to additional audio sources: http://www.americanswhotellthetruth.org/pgs/portraits/LeAlan_Jones.php
LeAlan is running for Senate as a Green Party Candidate in Illinois! http://lealanforsenate.org/
It is harder to locate what Lloyd is doing currently, as the last interview I can find is from 2001. But maybe he wants it that way, and I can respect that.

Thanks for the information! They really hit me too, it is so rare that we hear honest voices from disenfranchised groups. I'm looking forward to watching the movie or reading the transcript soon.
I remember reading Our America in high school and I would definitely recommend it if you haven't read it. Reading/watching the story is truly amazing because it is so incredible. I like that you looked to find information on the boys because I have wondered where they are today.
That movie definitely made me think after we watched it. I'm glad we took the time from class.
I also really enjoyed the movie, I'd never heard of it before, but I always love finding things like that. It makes life so much more positive when you hear about people attempting to get out the real story, despite others being against it.
What! LeAlan is running for senate! That's so cool! Way too many exclamation points here!
Anyway, I got so into that movie, too. I'm really glad that Bonnie let it run a little long.
Obviously, the movie runs deeper with this, but my teacher-brain kept thinking: It's so great when kids really get into a project about themselves or their families, communities, etc. When students really take autobiographical work seriously, it can end up being so amazing.
P.S. the word verification word for this comment is saner--I knew I was going overboard with the exclamation points!
Thanks so much for looking all this up! I really loved the movie, too. I can't believe LeAlan is running for senate!
